Cold Calling Is Not Dead

Cold calling may not be dead but…..
Cold calling is dying a slow death.
It’s associated with the kiss on the first date marketing principle.
And above all it is intrusive.
Does it mean that you and I should not do cold calling?
- It must be handled with care.
- It should only be used in extreme cases.
- There are alternatives to cold calling
Let’s assume you do cold calling with the outdated kiss on the first date mindset.
You are a real estate marketer and want to phone people in your listing area for whatever reason. You bought yourself a cold calling book and you are ready.
You memorize the script and you start phoning. You phone 1000 people asking them to use your services. You get 10 or less people who are interested and you feel ok because you have a thick skin. The other 990 people you phoned did not take your offer and you have wasted their time. But the guru will tell you that any publicity is good publicity.
Now let’s turn that on its head and use the two step approach to cold calling:
To two-step you need a blog and a newsletter.
You take your script and you phone 1000 people and you tell them about your free newsletter and your community blog and you invite them to subscribe. Now you get 990 people on your newsletter.
Do you think it’s impossible?
I have done it and it worked for me. The only people who did not subscribe were the ones without an email and one or two who were not interested. They subscribed because I gave them something for free and something they wanted. I did not ask for the kiss on the first date.
Ok. Let’s get into the practicalities of the two step cold calling process:
You get a list of home owners in your mining area (go to your local city and get it).
You get their telephone numbers from the online white pages.
Here are the script you can use and the objections you’ll encounter: [To continue reading you need to login or subscribe here].

Will you continue to use cold calling?
If your newsletter is a success the subscribers will forward it to their friends and they will subscribe to your blog. This is what happened to my real estate blog.
I am also taking articles from my blog and change them into press releases that I submit to the local community newspapers. Every time such a press release is published I get more subscribers.
